Solar Eclipse from Sea to Shining Sea

Posted by | Science and Fiction | No Comments

Hi! Diane Wigstone here. Those of you who know me well, know that I am somewhat of a science geek. Most people would never suspect it, but I am. I love to research science stuff, and learn how things work… Years of research in different science fields led to the revelations shared in my Master Your Mind book series.

And, I absolutely love seeing pictures of the universe – and stars – and galaxies…  the APOD app (Astronomy picture of the day) is very likely the only app that I use every day on my phone, without fail.

So, this month the galaxy is displaying a special treat for me – and for you…  It is a something that hasn’t been seen for almost 100 years. Ninety-nine years ago, on June 8, 1918, there was a total solar eclipse that was visible across the entire United States from sea to shining sea. Read More

Destiny Declarations

Posted by | Bible Study, Devotions, Discipleship | No Comments

This morning I woke up late. I had slept at least one hour more than usual. Last night I stayed up late on the computer and needed the extra sleep. When I woke up, I was feeling a bit groggy, and slow. I still felt tired. I wanted to just roll back over and go back to sleep. I didn’t want to get out of bed at all.

But, it was trash day, and the garbage men would be coming soon. I might have already missed them. I groaned. I dragged myself out of bed, and went in and said ‘Good morning’ to my Mom. She asked if I was going to walk this morning like I usually do. I said, “I don’t think so, I am really tired this morning.”

I shuffled around the house in my slippers and gathered up all the trash in the house for the garbage men to pick up. I plopped down in the chair by the door to put on my tennis shoes. Then threw my coat on over my pajamas, and shuffled out to the curb, to take out the garbage. The sky was gray, and the wind was chilly. I pulled my coat closer around me. It was a cold, gray, windy winter day.

I came back in the house shivering. “I am cold and tired, and I don’t feel so great,” I announced. “It is so cold out! There is no way I am going to walk this morning. I don’t think I’ll even get out of my pajamas today! I don’t feel like doing anything today.”

Then I heard what I had just said, and I thought, “Wait a minute! That is not my destiny declaration for today. I am not going to be in agreement with that!” Immediately I announced, “No, actually, I slept great! I even slept in late. I am refreshed, I am energetic. Today is going to be a great day of doing fun things to fulfill my destiny. I am going to go change out of my pajamas and take a brisk walk in this great cool air.”

And, that’s what I did.

The choice was mine. I am the one who decides the perspective I will live my life through each day.

I could have been grumpy and irritable all day. I could have slouched around in my pajamas, complaining about being tired, and done nothing all day long. Or, I could choose to be energetic, healthy, get dressed, and do my destiny.

The choice is yours. Every morning. Every minute. Now.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (NIV)

Thanks. Giving.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

35 Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise.” 1 Chronicles 16:34 &35 NIV

Thanks. Giving.

I have been thinking a lot again these last few weeks about what Thanksgiving means, and was struck by the two words found in the one… Thanks. Giving. I have been pondering thanks, (gratitude) and giving, and how they impacts our lives.

Thanks. Without gratitude, our attitude becomes toxic – literally. I discuss how what we think has direct repercussions on our health in my book, Master Your Mind. We must stay thankful to stay healthy! I believe our attitude will affect how successful we are in all areas of our lives. I want to be thankful at all times.

Giving. I think there is a similar principle for our finances. Without giving, our finances become ‘all about us’… and that can be toxic to your finances! I believe we must give with a cheerful heart for our finances to stay healthy! I want to be generous at all times.

Many years ago, I heard about Robert Gilmore LeTourneau. RG LeTourneau was a prolific inventor and held nearly 300 patents. He was a very successful businessman, whose earthmoving equipment, and Engineering vehicles, represented nearly 70 percent of the machines used during World War II. The University he founded, LeTourneau University, is still among the top of its kind, and “unapologetically Christian”.

But what struck me about his story, was not how much money he made, but how much money he gave! RG, during his day, was called “God’s Businessman”, and was known for his extravagant giving. LeTourneau gave 90% of all he made, and lived on 10%. He called it the “reverse tithe.”

I want to be like that!  Read More

Root issues…

Well, I found out what the brown spots were in our yard, that I have been mowing over all year. It is a particularly gnarly type of weed, with beautiful tiny purple flowers. They were brown all summer, and just started getting green leaves, and blooming the little flowers, now that we got some rain, and it’s a bit cooler.
Mom said there was a write up in the paper about them last weekend. She pointed them out to me yesterday, and taught me how to pull them out. You have to gather up all the little ‘branches’, and then twist the plant, as you pull it, to get the entire root out. Because, of course, if you don’t get the root out, it will just come back again.

Adventures in Publishing…

Posted by | Devotions | No Comments

For several months this year, we will be featuring some of the Destiny Center Authors as guest bloggers. This month we will hear from the Author of “The Creatively Imagined Explanation of Gabriel’s Blue Giraffe,” Kimiya DeRuiter.

It has been a thrill and an experimental adventure publishing my first children’s book. I am so thankful to my publisher and all who have encouraged and supported me in this journey.

The Creatively Imagined Explanation of Gabriel’s Blue Giraffe is an invitation to explore the maybe’s and perhapses of the limitless world of imagination. By nurturing, igniting, and fueling the adventure of discovery and plain old making stuff up, it is the ancient belief that we are created to create and expand our world into new worlds of thinking and inventing in partnership with our Divine Designer.

TaljonAside from just plain old fun, writing this book is my intentional effort to counter the loss and depletion of children’s imagination and recapture and mine the Gold in our #‎NextGen of Discoverers, Inventors, Writers, Filmmakers, Problem Solvers and Artrepreneurs.

My B&B&B&KBook Signing at Pasadena Central Library’s Author & Arts Fair was such fun. Honestly, I was overwhelmed with

gratitude towards all of the people that came out to support me and do a happy dance with me over the joy of getting my children’s book published and show casing it’s debut at the Pasadena Central Library. Feeling like the newbie on the block to all of this, it is an honor to run with a tribe of authors that have accomplished so much themselves.

Remember, today is a day to be creative!

“Maybe or Perhaps we could make stuff up and just use our imaginations today!”

Happy Mother’s Day

ILYM

I Love You Mom!
by Elizabeth W. Drake

There is nothing as special
As a Mother’s Love
Created and sent
By God above

A Mother loves at all times
And in so many ways
Making your life special
Even on ordinary days

A skinned up knee
A broken heart
No matter what hurts
She’ll do her part

To make you smile
And be joyful again
She’ll cheer you on
She knows you’ll win

A million things
A Mother will do
All because
She loves you…

Peace for Your Problems

Philippians 4:6 & 7 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

frightened-1172122_960_720It sure seems like an easy thing to worry. Everyday, problems come our way, and we have a choice. We can either decide to worry and be anxious, or we can turn everything over to God, knowing that He is in control.

Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
When we are anxious and troubled, our minds become anxious and troubled & consumed with the problem or situation.

When we are consumed with the problem, we focus on all the negatives, not all the positives. Focusing on all the negatives causes us to have toxins released in our bodies that make us ill. We literally make ourselves sick by the constant focus on our problems and being anxious about the situation.

So, God gives us the answer…  Read More

Alignment

Posted by | Bible Study, Devotions, Missions, Training, Worship & the Arts | No Comments

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6 – NASB

Recently, I noticed my car was pulling a bit to the right, which is better than pulling to the left, into traffic, but still is not as it should be.

That means my car has issues. It needs an alignment. When your car pulls right or left at the same time that you’re trying to make it go straight, then you’ve got issues. And it means you need to get your car to a place that does alignments.

Basically, an alignment “will make your [car’s] path straight,” like in today’s Bible verse.

It’s pretty common to need an alignment for your car. You need your car realigned because it’s been out doing what cars do – driving on bumpy roads, hitting potholes, and going over an occasional curb. Stuff like that knocks your car out the alignment.

The problem is, if you don’t get your car realigned, it throws everything off. The longer it goes on, the worse the damage. Including destroying our tires & then causing problems in many other areas.

Kind of like in our lives.  Read More

Globetrotting 101

Posted by | Missions, Training | No Comments

globetrottingRecently I had a dream that someone had taken my cell phone. In the dream, I was locked inside a Convention Center with other people, and could not get out. I could not call anyone to get help, or to let them know that I was there, because someone had taken my cell phone. Also, in the dream, I knew I could have used another phone to call my family, but I did not know any of their phone numbers… Because all of their phone numbers were in my cell phone.

I know there can be numerous interpretations of what that dream means, but the thing that stuck with me when I woke up, was the reality of what would happen if I lost my cell phone.

I don’t know about you, but it seems that we are at the point where we seem to rely on our cell phones for everything. It is our map, our address book, our itinerary, our calendar, our weatherman, our camera, our video camera, our photo album, our office away from home, our main organizer of our lives, and our personal phone book…

It wasn’t always this way. Read More
